CAC in Politico

Climate Action California’s CEO Janet Cox is quoted in the April 29 edition of the Politico California Climate Newsletter.
‘Environmental groups, however, see Becerra’s record as attorney general differently. Janet Cox, CEO of Climate Action California, said that she and a group of climate activists, including former EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck, pushed Becerra’s office for years to file a lawsuit against oil companies, with few results.
“We never got a response from Becerra, and clearly he wasn’t moving on it, because he didn’t,” Cox said. “That was super disappointing.”
And while Cox and others gave Becerra credit for launching an environmental justice bureau with the DOJ in 2018, they said that doesn’t offset the fact that he accepted money from Chevron. Climate Action California’s 6,500 members voted to endorse Steyer on Tuesday. Becerra was not listed on the ballot because of his fossil fuel donations.
“Think about the damage that Chevron’s business plan has wreaked on California,” Cox said. “It’s an outrageous statement to say that we need Chevron; that’s like saying we need dope pushers.”’
