Thanks to generous contributions from board members and volunteers in both Climate Action California and the Climate Action California Foundation, we have hired our first staff and launched ambitious plans for 2024.

Two ways to support our work

The Climate Action California Foundation and Climate Action California share goals and values, but are two distinct organizations.

The Climate Action California Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity, committed to educating the members of the public and decision makers about the critical importance of addressing the climate emergency and ways to reduce emissions and speed the transition to a low-carbon economy. Contributions to the Foundation are fully tax-deductible to donors.

When you donate appreciated stock to the Climate Action California Foundation, you receive a tax deduction for the market value of the securities. We especially urge our supporters to give fossil fuel stocks, so we can put those very resources to work for the climate!

Climate Action California is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that lobbies in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., and is endorsing candidates for the California's Senate and Assembly. While the organization is tax-exempt, contributions are not tax-deductible to donors.

If you do not itemize deductions or give through a Donor Advised Fund, please support us with a contribution to Climate Action California.

Contributions to the Foundation support our efforts to educate the public and legislators on the science that informs our positions on climate change issues. We publish and distribute educational materials, hold nonpartisan candidate forums, provide training on aspects of the legislative process, and engage with executive agency staff of implementation of climate laws. Some legislative advocacy is allowed under the rules governing 501(c)(3) nonprofits.

Donations to the Foundation support The Condor, our Substack magazine, as well as staff who work with our campaign teams, welcome new volunteers to our work, and plan legislative trainings and webinars.

Support Climate Action California’s legislative advocacy and elections work

Climate Action California (CAC) lobbies in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., and in meetings with our representatives at every level of government. In 2024 we plan to endorse and oppose candidates, based on their positions on climate issues. As a 501(c)(4), Climate Action Climate Action California is tax exempt, although contributions are not tax deductible to donors.

In addition to supporting our efforts to pass strong climate legislation and our electoral work, contributions to Climate Action California pay for communications for both organizations: the shared website, the mailing list and database, and outreach materials.
