Statement on Proposition 50

Climate Action California supports Proposition 50, Governor Newsom’s and the Legislature’s ballot measure for the November 4 special election.

Redrawing California’s Congressional districts before the 2026 midterm elections will counter Texas’ redistricting scheme, which is explicitly intended to silence the voices of Democrats and people of color in their state and across the nation. Prop 50 is how California can help to restore checks and balances to our national government. 

Climate Action California follows the science and accepts the reality of the climate emergency—unlike Trump and his administration. As Republicans in the national government work to reverse progress on climate change, we must act to change current policy. Prop 50 gives Californians an opportunity to “fight back” in the most democratic way possible—at the ballot box.
